the 6.25"x5.50" pattern is also the same as the T-96. Sounds like the trans indexed on the bolt holes only if the nose was 1/8" less diameter. Should be okay that way. When I used one of those bells for a T-96 I drilled the bearing retainer (nose piece) of an old SR-4 to fit the T-96. The bolt pattern was small enough that the heads of the screws were onto the "ramp" of the retainer and didn't sit flat, but there was no real stress on the ratainer. In hind sight I should have drilled the trans case. A small magnet on the case right under the hole (on the inside) will take care of any shavings large enough to do any damage. Plugging the holes later (if the trans went back into a correct bell) would be as simple as running in set screws or cutting bolts off. The "new" bolt pattern would be under the old retainer anyway, so may not have needed plugging.
