Re: Manual steering conversion

" From: Doug Dornbos <dornbos@xxxxxxxxxxx>
"
"
" I purchased two Saginaw manual steering boxes from a vendor at the big
" party in Kenosha a few years ago and just now am getting to taking the
" power steering out of the Matador and converting it to manual. When I
" got the power steering box out however, it became obvious that the three
" bolts that hold it to the frame had different spacing than either of the
" manual boxes I had bought.
"
" Does anyone know of a cross reference for these boxes i.e. a place to go
" where I can find what they are from? Or is there a way to use one on my
" existing vehicle?

when saginaw developed the model 700 integral ps they gave it a
larger bolt pattern than manual boxes had. they remained different
until '75 or so, when the saginaw manual gear was redesigned to have
the ps pattern. it sounds like your boxes are pre-'75, and you need a
post-'75 box to do it the easy way.

nb. the saginaw 605 ps, designed for the vega, has the old manual box
pattern. you want ps in your bathtub nash?
