Well, there's one SURE way to NEVER get taken - no scammer , other than just plain unscrupulous Sellers, will try to cheat you for just a few dollars. Most of my Ebay purchases are under $50 anyway, with a few exceptions. So far, only a very few unsatisfactory experiences, and then involving shipment damage. I've only attempted to buy one car thru Ebay, a sunroof Gremlin, and it was "local", ie 80 miles away, which I went to see personally before bidding. I lost the bidding, only to be contacted by the long-distance Buyer 2 months later, who wanted to drive it back 600 miles, and couldn't, so he asked if I wanted it for his price he paid. I did buy it, and still have it. :) So, bottom line is, if it's worth being scammed for, it CAN be, but if it's small, your risk is minimal. I've bought hundreds of items, and sold dozens, with only rare problems. Nothing expensive. Ebay is great for small purchases, but you open yourself up if you start batting in the Big League $'s. I don't buy anything I can't see or touch that's over $100, usually, so I'm pretty insulated from potential fraud. I still get the usual " Your account has been compromised, please reset your Password" etc. scam messages, but so far, I've not had a problem with recognizing them. I just go to My Ebay, and if no messages there, I send to Spoof, then delete. For you Internet car buyers now, it's more like a crap-shoot , picking the hooker with no diseases. LOL. WIsh ya luck! Don't forget to check under the (fender)skirts for icky brown stuff ( rust ).
