There has to be something wrong with the hinges themselves. The only real solution is to replace them. It may not be possible to tell how they are bent without a good hinge to compare to. Sounds like the hood flew open at some point in time and really tweaked the hinges. That or the hinges bound up (got stiff) and the hood support bent gradually over the years. I don't think it likely that the supports on the inner fender wells got bent. Slotting the hinges should work, will keep you from replacing the hinges and more likely the hood.
