IIRC, 71-72 have shaft rockers, most of 73 has briged pivot, and most of 74 has shaft again. There is some overlap near the end of the 73 model run and at the end of 74/beginning of 75 model runs. The problem was a patent dispute with Buick over he bridged rockers. I don't know if AMC was ordered to "cease and desist" the design until the problem was worked out or they did so voluntarily (for their own good), but the result was almost a year of bridged pivot, then back to shaft, and back to bridged pivot after the dispute was settled. I have no idea how it was settled, just that it (obviously!) was.
