Well, the recent remediation of latest web-list outage (again rendering lost posts as irrelevant as any "J" code Alliances that AMC history forgot...) and my early return from NAIAS (a weekend at home may be more rewarding than another see-and-be-seen Charity Preview --- one insular evening if there ever was one (and one clue to what's been both good and bad about the US auto industry: Motown still seems a very small and inbred corner of the big bad world) have me back in Dullsville doing the same dumb old things. And if a Scottsdale stop is added to the west coast trip plans, I need to do them all right the first time out. (Several acquaintances have asked if I would "advise" them on purchases, and, being of sound Rambler mentality, I can't turn down a free ride --- on private or corporate jet --- even if it's only a one-way savings!) Only one auction may interest AMC, and only 1% of its lots are AMCs. There were enough [two-story] video walls to line your Rio Grande border and there were enough halogen bulbs to burn Kuekenhof back to Het Loo: sufficient 2006 motor madness to make 1636 Tulipomania seem sane. So Detroit can pull off the world's best car "do" still --- too bad it still can't build the world's best cars, sell 'em in the world's best quantities, and earn the world's best profits --- like it once did, and still needs to. If the "Caliber" of "American" cars certainly is rising, the "Fit" from elsewhere sure is rising even faster. Dodge and Honda. AMC and Datson*. Still the same old story.
