American Heater/Blower switch substitute!

While looking for my shock receipte (and remembering why I didn't have one!), I cam across another receipt I saved from my 63 American because I thought it would come in handy -- the number for the heater/blower switch (pull for heat, twist for blower).

One day at my first duty station (Mountain Home, Idaho, 1983-86), I noticed that the heater control on one of the IHC 1.5 ton trucks we had was almost identical to the one in my Rambler. So when my switch gave up, I went to the local IHC dealer and had them look it up. That would be Navistar (or Navistar International) today. Not sure they still have them, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised! Find a dealer and have them look up part number 412869C1 (or CI?). Back in 1986 it was only $9.20, might be a bit more now! It works with one small exception: the switch is made to fit a bigger hole. IIRC I used a round file to fix that little inconvenience. Having a temp control and switch in the right place (a choke cable and rotary or toggle switch, one in and one under the dash, works if really strapped) was worth that little bit of work!
