The larger engine will like a larger carb. The smaller carb just keeps the engine from getting up to it's full power potential. AMC's not the only manufacturer to intentionally put a smallish carb on to limit power output. A big engine with a small carb will last a long time and you can't get enough air in to blow it up. The restrictor plate as used in NASCAR on some engines (or used to be...) is just a plate that mounts between the carb and intake with holes of a particular size. The plate is marked by NASCAR officials. I'm not sure if the stamp can be read from the outside or the carb has to come off. They use the marked plate because the officials can easily measure and verify it, carbs can be doctored up and aren't as easy to measure. You can only get so much air through a certain size hole no matter what the velocity. On December 30, 2005 Timothy W.
