Folks, In 1967 the feds passed an automobile safety act that mandated lots of new options to the cars of those days including, but not limited to: side marker lights, collapsible steering columns, dual piston master brake cylinders, seat belts, etc... If you look at a similar model for any car between model years 1967 and 1968 you will see all of this and more... Later Peter -----Original Message----- From: Larry R. I doubt it. The spear of death steering column would certainly have shown up as a problem prior to 1967. Side impact? Crumple zone? I don't think those terms even existed back then. I know they had a test track and checked for rattles, leaks, etc. but I would be very curious to know the extent of crash testing in that era. Joe Fulton Salinas, CA Oh, Yes AMC did crash testing. I have some of the video tape of AMXs, Javelins , a 67 Rebel Convertible , etal being crashed. And NO I'm not handing any of the footage out ,Chrysler would have a fit if they knew this footage was out there, faster then you can say explosion & PINTO in the same sentence. tanks, LRDaum
