Not all 1968's have these. There were a bunch of structural changes to American's in 1968 to meet tougher crash worthiness standards (see http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/FMVSS/#SN204 for a description). You want these from a car that lists that it meets Federal Safety Standard #204 on the door tag.

To meet this standard, AMC changed the floor pan, the channel Andrew referenced, transmission crossmember brackets, the front inner fender panels (all three of them), and the firewall (left hand drive only).
