I have used the Eastwood Zinc Plating kit in the past and it works well on small parts. Once the part is plated you can leave it the dull zinc finish or use the polish provided to polish the zinc out like chrome and put a quality past wax on it to keep the chrome appearance. It holds up fine for under the hood parts and interior parts but I have never used it on an exterior application. I plan on plating the hatch line up pin I made last week and polishing it out like chrome. What a pain to get it smooth. Once plated if not perfectly smooth it will show every nick and scratch. I have 8 hours into the smoothing of this little part, but proper preparation is everything. Of course it was made from a rusty piece of 1/8 strap and a new 3/8 pin was welded on it. I started with course emery cloth, then medium, then 400# sandpaper, then 600# and finally 1000# then crocus cloth. The plating process and polishing should only take 3/4's to 1 1/2 hours. I haven't plated anything in about 3 years. "Doc"
