re: new amc book what would you like to see?

D. AMC Abroad ** Major AMC operations overseas. I have little info on the
Iranian venture.
1. Vehiculos Automotores Mexicanos 5. South Africa
2. Industries Kaiser Argentina Renault 6. Iran
3. Australian Motor Industries 7. Karman (West Germany)
4. Regie Nationale des Usines Renault (Belgium)

Don't forget Brampton, Ontario, Canada; Bejing, China; Cairo Egypt; Tejerias Venezuela. The plant in Cairo was 49% owned by the Arab Organization for Industrialization; whihc was a consortum of four middle eastern nations, and 49% by AMC. The Egyptian plant would be cranking out 12,000 vehicles per year by 1981. There were ventures in Korea and Phillipines. And there were also ventures in Costa Rica and Pakistan, will have to really dig for those however, but AMC was proud of their involvemment in those countries and the Jeep brand had some great recognition and loyal following. Some of the more significant sales
for say, for instance, 1975 was AM General's sale of trucks and spare parts to Morocco for $54.3 million (no small change in 1975 bucks!) which was 1844 vehicles, and a $11.9 million order from the government of Jordan. A whole chapter might be dedicated to AMC's subsidiaries like Windsor Plastics of Evansville, IN; Mercury Plastics which was making many AMC plastic injected molded parts (very important note here as manufacturers were moving away from metal and towards plastics; the average amount of plastics per car had increased from 90lbs per car in 1970, to abuot 150lbs in 1974, and was forecast to exceed 180lbs by 1979) and maybe Wheel Horse Products of South Bend too.

There is a lot of stories to be told with AMC that one book won't accomplish I guess.
