Re: AMC 2.5 (NOT iron Duke 2.5) Expert Advice needed

I agree wholey with your logic Jesse, but you can't use the AMC/Jeep 2.5L with the old trans and bell. The pre 84 GM 2.5L uses a small block Chevy V-8 bolt pattern. 84 and later use the GM small V-6 bolt pattern (60 degree V; 2.8/3.1/3.4L; 4.3L uses SBC also).

The best thing to do is get the complete engine, trans, and x-fer case from the Jeep. You may have to have driveshafts made, but that will be cheaper than a trans adapter. I doubt anyone makes a SBC to small V-6 trans adapter. The driveshaft alterations (get the Jeep shafts) will cost no more than $150 a shaft if there's a local shop, and may cost much less. The Jeep or Eagle front shaft might even fit without alteration. I'm pretty sure the rear one will need to be shortened.
