This is why I have a full set of TSMs! 1971 was the last use of vacuum
wipers
by AMC. They were only used in Hornet and Gremlin.
Uh, nope, they were offered up on all models.
<<
My 71 Javelin with 232 has vacuum wipers. So the TSM is not always
correct with specific options for each series.
Correct, just like original AMC color catalogs have tons of airbrushing in
them. One of the best examples would be the 1973 AMC CC showing the 72 AMX &
Javelin. It's a 72 and there are about 6 items wrong in there, well, not
really wrong, some airbrushed, others never saw production. Another photo
would be the 71 AMX press photo for instance:

You simply can't rely solely on the TSMs, nor the CC's this is why you see
(and hopefully buy for your collection) Bulletins, as these included many
mid year changes, or running changes, or how to fix problems that crept up
with that model year. Don't treat them as bible either, but again, the TSMs
and CCs were produced well before the vehicles ran down the line for that
modle year, usually well before Aug 1st.

I believe you Ray. You probably have an early production model. There was
always a little overlap during model year change-up that are exceptions to
the
rule.
No Frank, [I believe] vacuum wipers were standard on -all- 1971 models.
Correct. The 71 Matador 2door, which I have here and the fellow has almost
completely paid off now, is a original 14,000 mile car, untouched. Vacuum
wipers. Original Vacuum Wipers that SUCK.

That is the original window sticker, however this is the main file off my
site:

This 71 Matador was built in the 10th month of production for 1971......May
1971.....
I paid $22+ extra for 2-sp electrics on a top-line Ambassador Brougham.
Yup, optional on Amboaties too.
But yes, AMC was the last domestic manufacturer to switch over in 1972.
Correct, 71 was the last year for vacuum wipers, and AMC was, well, last,
sort of like the Houston Texans :~P))
