Re: Hey Frank Your Old rambler Classic Still Lives

My old car was used in the segment shot in Atlanta back in 1998-99. I moved in March 2000 and it was before then -- I think the summer of 99, but may have been 98. They wanted a "typical Rambler" to show as a percurssor to the muscle cars. They showed just the front because of the custom wheels I had -- the director didn't want the wheels to show because he though someone would end up calling/writing that those wheels weren't available on Ramblers. My opinion was it would be obvious they were custom wheels and it wouldn't matter, but he didn't want to take the chance, and they just needed a few seconds anyway. I should have thought to bring my full wheel covers! They would have fit over the steel wheels just fine.

The new car is running fine. Drove it all the way from Mississippi to Dover pulling a light trailer. I still have a few things to work out, but have a speedometer and temp gauge now! Have a leak in the gas tank (only when near full, I think it's the sending unit seal or a bad vent hose), the gas gauge doesn't work, and the driveshaft is a little short -- that's my vibration at speed. The shaft was made by measuring the same as if the rear axle would be moving. When the springs are compressed on a car the shaft goes in. Well, with my IRS the diff doesn't move, so the yoke doesn't need that extra inch for movement. It's actually more like 1-1/4" to short -- just enough to cause some vibration at speed. Now I need to replace the bushing in the tailshaft housing and the rear seal. It took a while to figure out what was causing the rear seal to leak! I may check on getting the driveshaft this winter, but will wait until spring to drop the gas tank. My 63 is truly a daily driver -!
 - I need it! It's a bit cold to ride the motorcycle to work right now -- cold or wet. It was warm today, but a 70% chance of rain. But overall I'm pleased with the car. If I hadn't went to Korea then had to move this past summer it would be fixed by now!

40 years ago! I'm starting to feel my age with 22.5 years in now. I just hope I have a good 15 years of messing around with cars before I start to taper off when I get out in a year and a half!
