re: Crossmember interchange question

The 71-74 Javelin uses the Matador crossmember. Ambassador has a unique crossmember due to the longer wheelbase. All the small cars (64-69 American and all Hornet, Gremlin, Concord, Spirit) use the same crossmember. The perches are different by engine. 1964-65 195.6 six crossmember has no perches -- the mounts bolt directly to the crossmember. All 199/232/258 perches are the same, and all V-8 perches are the same. The 2.0L and 2.5L perches are different from each other as well as six and eight models.

Another thing to consider is the engine mount plates that bolt to the side of the block. The small cars have plates that pull the mounts much closer to the block than big cars and Javelin. So you have to have those mount plates also. Galvin's Rambler Parts (www.ramblerparts.com) sells repro plates and crossmembers for V-8 conversion. You can modify the six cylinder perches or cut them off and fabricate new ones, but you still need those close in block plates.
