Modern mailing list software, like Mailman, solves this problem; you  
go to a webpage to sign up for a list, but instead of just signing  
you or your ("victim") up, it sends email to that address with a URL  
that you click -- ONLY THEN are you joined to the list. It totally  
prevents this problem.
