Plastic Hornet Dashes

The dash when new was flimsy never mind now that we are looking at 35
year old ones now that the plastic is brittle. The only metal in the
whole thing was the stamped rib along the bottom linking the ends to the
door pillar. Southern cars such as my orange car that spent it's first
24 years in Florida the sun warped and cracked the dashes and other
plastic parts beyond repair. John Ellie once told me that people come to
Arizona for rust free cars and they go north for plastic interior parts.
The only original dash part in my orange car is the metal/plastic glove
box door. As far as the glove box being part of the dash itself I
probably was a strengthening design incorporated. Since when did any car
mfg. make a car so it could be easily serviced. I replaced the heater
core in my yellow Hornet when it was 25 years old just as a
precautionary measure and although it did not leak it had the whitish
residue on one corner like Tom said he had on his. It was probably just
a matter of time though. Heater cores for 73 and up Hornets and Javelins
are the same and are only about 40$ at the local auto parts store. Even
if the orange cars heater core was not leaking I still would have
replaced it for peace of mind.
