Re: Early AMC 258 six adapter con't

There are problems with the Supra (and possibly Toyota truck) transmission swap. I've only looked at one Supra, and I forget the year, but it uses an electronic gadget instead of a cable for the throttle valve. It has to be connected to the throttl position sensor, but I don't know if it goes through the computer or not. The little gizmo on the trans (inserts where the cable would go, doesn't appear to be a different trans case) COULD work independently by reading the resistance of the TPS, but it more likely interfaces with the computer. As I mentioned, there doesn't appear to be a difference in the case itself, this gizmo just inserts in the same hole the cable would. So you MIGHT be able to remove it and use the Jeep TV cable. I don't know anyone who's actually used a Supra tranny. There's little chance a different year Supra would use a cable, there's no room under the tranny hump to run a cable. I'm not sure if Toyota trucks that used the AW4 (Four Runner, and one of th!
e SUVs I know) use a cable or the electronic gizmo. A friend had a SUV, and I looked good enough to be positive it's the same as the Jeep AW-4 (Toyota is an A-340?), and I THINK it uses a cable, but not positive. In any event, you need the Jeep AW-4 (doesn't matter if 2 or 4 WD) for the bell housing.
