While I disagree with Novak on their assesment of the AW-4 transmission (Novak is dealing more with real heavy duty off-roading, which makes a difference), they have a great Chevy V-9 into Jeep Cherokee article. This will serve for any vehicle, and isn't Chevy specific. They recommend Chevy and Buick V-8s and V-6s for upgrading Cherokee power over and above the 4.0L (though I don't think a V-6 is an upgrade -- not even the 4.3L, of the 4.0L in-line unless you need to rev a lot, like maybe a mud racer...). It's a good general guide for engine swaps. Remember, the 70+ small AMCs (Hornet/Gremlin et al) have an engine bay about the same size asthe XJ Cherokee. Here's the link: http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/knowledge_gateway.htm There are links to putting a Chevy in an XJ to the right fo the main link list. Do check out the "Engines" link and read what they have to say about AMC engines. The first page doesn't seem to enthusiastic (they love the Chevy V-8, obviously), but click on the AMC specific link. They do respect AMC, and have better things to say about AMC in general than most sites. Since they get lots of Jeep owners, I guess they didn't want to "dis" the ones that decide to keep AMC power, though I would think most of their customers are looking for power where they can get it and don't care about keeping their Jeep all AMC. ============================================================= Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist
