I wonder how long a Renault Lecar or 18i based transaxle would hold up?
Behind 500 hp? I can imagine not very long... :-) This is the brick-
shithouse, double-o-ringed, turbo 6000 rpm Indy motor... even scaled back
a bit its likely to break smallish stuff even with skinny tires.
I'm a year off from even paper brainstorming this idea, to be honest. The
advantage of a front engine rear drive track roadster type conventional
hotrod is obvious; plus I could use all Rambler driveline for added
goodness.
Yep. and just keep keep the dream alive while you're waiting, go to Ebay
once in awhile and search on "race car" and see what kind of roadster
chassis turns up.
I was at Bonneville in August this year for speed week. That kinda thing
could easily get in my blood. In fact, I was surprised that I liked it so
much. My stepbrother and his buddies from Indiana brought their XXO class
vintage sedan (stretched Model A on a tube frame chassis). It is the
recordholder in it's class....154 + mph powered by a buick straight 8.
