rear wheel cylinder interchange?

Are rear wheel cylinders generally interchangable within a given size
bendix backing plate? I mean within a given axle/brake size combo:
AMC15 with 9" x 2" rear drum.
I'm hoping I can bolt 1979 wheel cyls into the 1970 backing plate and
work with the shoes and junk already in there.
