Something's funky with that ad. 32 MPG?
::nod:: That was a bit on the unusual side, yes. Mine is about 20 MPG
highway,
Motor Trend car of the year?
That information is correct. Rambler's whole line was Car of the Year
in 1963 (as the ad states), largely due to the success of the Classic.
I think it's a touch of hyperbole to mention it in their ad for a 1964,
but they make no false claim with it.
And I cannot recall seeing a 232 in a '64. Maybe it's a transplant.
There were 6775 Rambler Classics made with a 232 engine (including
Typhoons). 1690 of those were 770 level station wagons. The seller is,
however, incorrect on it being a Canadian engine: no 770 station wagons
from Canada were equipped with the 232. In fact, no 232s came out of
Canada in any 1964 Classic of any body or trim level, according to the
"End of Year Summary of Productions and Options-Passenger Cars" for
'64.
Frankly, though, I do think it's cool -- and would be a neat bit of
history of the car -- to have a vehicle that was potentially related to
the The New Christy Minstrels (not to mention Fred Waring's
Pennsylvanians).

Gwen Smith
