The 232 was a mid year introduction. Stock in the Typhoon, optional in all others, including the American. The 196 was still the base model six, though most big cars received the 232 six. The 199 replaced the 196 in 65, and a few late production 64s got the 199 (all big cars, I think, would have to check). It would be difficult to get 32 mpg from a Classic with OD, would have to be ideal conditions! The best I've ever recorded was 27 mpg, and that was under pretty much ideal conditions. I must confess that's with a 4.0L (stock, not stroked) and three speed w/BW OD (T-96, 3.31 axle). I don't think a carbed 232 could do any better under any conditions -- the low speed (cruising about 55-60) and mostly down hill (south from north Atlanta to Warner Robins, GA) trip made the difference. The EFI 242 (4.0L) has to be more efficient than a carbed 232.
