Re: Power to Electric Choke

<I am installing a Holley 4160 with an electric choke. Is there any compelling reason why I cannot run the lead to the hot terminal on the coil?>

I have not done this myself, but I have heard of other people doing it successfully. The power to the coil primary is through a resistive wire which drops the coil voltage. There are two potential problems with this plan.

1)Adding another load (the choke spring) will drop the coil voltage more. If you do the mod then have ignition problems, this is the reason.

2)The choke spring is calibrated for a full 12V. By connecting to less than 12V, it will take longer for the spring to expand keeping your engine rich longer - you might find the plugs fouling.

Again, other people have apparantly tied the choke pull-off to the coil primary without and problems, but these are the things to watch out for.
