reo won the army's post-ww2 2.5t-5t drive-off over gm. then korea
happened and reo couldn't ramp up fast enough, so a lot of gm m135s
were made. that may be when studebaker got involved, or maybe reo
sold their mil business to stude. at any rate, stude started making
m35s in the '50s.

anyway, kaiser bought the truck operation when stude exited the
vehicle business in the early '60s, and amc bought kaiser in the early
'70s then sold it in the early '80s when renault bought in, and though
now controlled by gm, the 'am general' plant in south bend still makes
hummers, and at least until recently, deuce-and-a halfs of a spec
evolved from the reo design.
