Bill Strobel's post (I won't repeat it here) is GREAT! (IMHO) I just can't understand why folks think it's better to buy a Hybrid (which has MANY more electronic controls and will be MUCH more expensive to repair) than a good old oil burner (Diesel). Just cause it's a Diesel does NOT mean it has to be noisy and emit large clouds of black smoke. Run that sucker on BioWillie and use a soot trap,,, even older models are good to go! Most sucke,,,, I mean CONSUMERS only think about gas mileage when considering these vehicles. I read a report a while back comparing the natural resources needed to manufacture a standard vehicle and a Hybrid of comparable size. Guess what?? The Hybrid LOSES! As of now, a Hybrids better mileage does not make up for the extra resources needed to produce them!! Maybe in a few years if they can improve the mileage over a comparable standard engine that will change, but not now. I've been a fan of Alky since I saw for myself how clean it burned in Super Modified engines back in the 60's. Yeah I know it has some drawbacks, but it's there NOW, can be HOME GROWN, and if we would just put enough pressure on the correct powers that be, COULD be helpful in reducing our inexcusable dependence on imported crude. Then there's those Diesel Rabbits I owned in the 90's that were getting 50 hwy mpg,,, Where are cars like THAT (INEXPENSIVE and easy to maintain) now that we REALLY need them!! Booo Hooo,,,,, rant off, Bruce Hevner
