I recently upgraded my work truck from a '92 Isuzu with 207K miles to a late model, '02 Ford Ranger 4 cyl/5 sp with low miles I saw at a big Orlando Ford dealer (early results show near 30mpg). As some of you may know, even a simple deal at a dealer takes an hour or so to complete, so while some of that was happening, my wife and I perused around the lot and looked at inventory. On new, there were very few Focuses and Rangers - the vehicles that get the most gas mileage. There were tons of F150's and up trucks, even '05's with the "Family Plan". Used there were lots of SUV's, including two nice Jeep's, one a '00 Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 2wd loaded with leather and more that I or my wife would love to have except that I need a truck (no way around that), gas mileage, and that's more than I wanted to spend. Looks like the gas prices ARE effecting purchasing decisions from what I saw. I have for many yrs been trying to buy cars and trucks that get better mileage. My wife's car also needs an upgrade as she put's 90 miles/day on it. Her original choices now are no longer valid due to fuel costs. Now we're looking at something like a Diesel VW for her. HMMM, what would it take to put a Ram Cummings turbodiesel in the wagon....
