Nonetheless, AMC friends, it is the exact sort of "sports sedan" body that your Hornet was derived from. There are reasons for those skimpy rear doors.

I would have expected it to be painted a more "classic" color -- surely they didn't have such bright colors back then!! I must admit though, I think the car looks very good, even a bit modern, in that color. If I saw it on a show field the first thing I'd wonder is if it had modern running gear underneath though. It looks that modern and "unclassic".

Maybe that's the reason for the Jeep XJ small rear doors -- and limited rear seat leg room. the Chinese fixed that with their "Super Cherokee" though.

The small pic shows the longer doors and lengthend roof. Click to the left on Super Cherokee then specifications for dimensions, but get ready for metric conversions. The bigger pics are the "Jeep 2500" to the left and Grand Chero to the right. The 2500 is a Super Chero w/GC type front end, another Chinese only model.

You might want to see if the Kenosha Historical Society has any more. They sold bricks from the remains of the original Jeffery factory when it was torn down 10 years ago. I didn't buy one, but I know a few people did.
