The idea is to provide more cooling surface. If the core isn't appreciably thicker you lose flow capacity by having to many cores -- and the rear cores won't cool as much as the front ones. If the core is the typical 1.5-1.75" thick, there won't be much more cooling, and could be worse. If it's a 2-2.25" thick core, it should cool a bit better. But is it needed?
