I am actually considering a later fuel injection six for the 78, but
for at least a few years, this car will remain mostly stock.

<> Find a '96 or newer Jeep 4.0 engine with flexplate / bell /
ECM and harness from a Donor. You can then obtain a Toyota
Supra Turbo automatic transmission > which bolts in as it is
Aisin Mfg'd as is the JEEP AW4.

 After
driving it home, I will be adding power brakes. It just takes too
much
effort for my tastes. This car will be mostly used by my girlfriends
new driver son, so no major work restoring this car will start until
he is done using it.

<> Girlfriends are good.

This car will not get a different brand engine
and will be pretty much restored to stock condition since the 78 is
pretty rare.

<> In Total Agreement. You'll Truly enjoy the 4.0 upgrade as
it is Night and Day compared to a Carb'd 258.

<>In the Meantime > you could get a '91 - '93 4.0 cyl. head,
EFi system and '89 Cherokee exhaust header and convert
the 258. Strokers@yahoogroups is the place to join up.

It is a driver that has had some pretty shoddy work done
to the paint job. It does need some work but not much to be pretty
nice. I will be needing a few parts in the future for the
restoration.

About the other car with the Hemi. AMC never made an overdrive or
fuel
injection for the V-8, the six really isn't in the same leage for my
planned use of the 72 Javelin.

While I personally would not put a Chevy
of Ford engine in an AMC, they certianly are cheaper, not better then
AMC engines.

Having a Kammback, I'm concerned with front end weight in
a big way, since having a Nose Heavy Coupe would 'snow-plow'
the curves and dips the Hudson Valley are noted for.

So I 'nixed' my 360 plan as Aluminum Heads and a build
would put me over the Top.

A 4.0 swap would be the way to go if I were not for the
'Concept Engine' that the 4.0 Stroker guys dreampt up
a few months ago.

The List went full tilt on an 'Ultimate' inline Six > the
'Next Generation' for JEEP should they redesign the
Inline 4.0 engine.

When we finished the brain-storming, we found that
our 'Dream Team' 4.0 did exist already in the form of
the GM 'Blue Flame' Vortec 4200 DOHC all aluminum SFI - ECM
controlled camshafts engine >shifts @ 6,500rpm and
cranks 275HP _ which can be had
from www.car-parts.com
for around a Grand > ready
to run.

With two small Turbos, 8.5 to 1 Pistons, this power plant
churns out 400HP with a flat Torque Curve all day long.

The Weight reduction over a cast iron 4.0 should be notable.

That is the GM Media area which has incredible
.pdf files on the Engine.

Yeazzsir....... I know...... but Twin Cams singing
@ 6,500 thru lite weight Aluminum for a G note ?
