Re: Well now isn't that special!

I did forget one piece of irony, The 990 has one good body part on it. Not damaged or rusted at all. It is the drivers door and mine has started to rust. So I actually get one Body part I needed! I also get some little stuff that I am missing. I'm sure that as I dig into this thing I will find more goodies that I can use. Right now it seems pretty bleak though!
I had to jack the right front up last night, cut the brake shoe retaining pins and wrestle the front drum off as it was full of mud and siezed. Pulled the shoes and hardware and put the drum and wheel back on. Then I had to jack the left front up and swap a spare onto it as it would only hold air for about 5 minutes. Now I'v gotten it to rolling status. I have to figure out my attack plan.
Tonight I'm going to pull all the plugs and spray marine engine fogging oil into the cylinders, Then I want to WD-40 or something the valve train and set the valve covers back on it. I need to try to preserve the rotating status of the engine till I get into it.
I've offered it to my brother for a project engine, but so far he doesn't seem interested.
Odometer shows 76,000, but I have no way of verifiying if it is 76,000 or 176,000. The gas pedal and Brake pedal look nice. I know the stainless trim is worn through on the Convertible at 106,000. I'm guessing this car is at 76,000 original.
I also noticed the trunions are caked with dried grease in big old clumps and they seem to be nice and tight, not worn out at all. I will pull the front suspension off this car and go thorugh it for a possible swap onto the convertible if it seems to be safe to use.
I don't know that my original plans will work at all.
I wanted to get this car running and swap the running driveline into the convertible.
The flood water was up into the gauges, which the seller lied and told me it was not. So I'm gussing that I would have a difficult time getting this thing to run on the elctrics in the car. I may have to try to think this out further. I don't want to swap this stuff in untested. So I may do the original plan of putting timing chain into the 287 I have and dropping it in the convert to get it to running status. Then I will know if the convertibles trans is useable. If not, I will go through the 990H trans and use it behind the 37,000 mile 327, or, I will punt and go straight to the turbo 400!
This convertible project may take a while!
I told my wife she was right, I should have bought the mountain bike! :]
Maybe I'll go get one this week and cheer myself up!
