" More tidbits, 2000 up manual trans is a Tremec 3550 IIRC

it may well be in tremec's hands now, but it was once a nvg.

new venture was a marriage of gm's muncie gear works and chrysler's
new process gear, and it seems to have fallen apart somewhat. the
nv3500 family came to nv from muncie, who in turn acquired it from
getrag in the '80s - their h290 iirc.

" It is supposed to be the best shifting most durable trans.

most durable of the stock 4.0 offerings - definitely. gm puts it
behind v8s. best shifting - could be; the ax15 isn't known for that.
but i bet a t5 - also made by tremec these days - would beat it hands
down for feel.

for a car, i'd want a t5 or a turbo supra r154 [ax15 sibling], unless
i plan on pulling big trailers.

btw, a 2wd ax15 is rare in jeeps, but dakotas of some years used the
identical tranny and many of them were 2wd.

" 2000 heads have smaller exhaust ports for better torque and low end

" duals on your six! Cool! I have a set of the manifolds and it appears
" they can be ported to work on earlier heads, but may cut down upper
" RPM flow rates somewhat.

do those manifolds look like they'd fit older amc sixes too?
thinking/dreaming of duals on my 199...

if you want/need better low end, consider a milder cam than the stock
4.0's, which iirc is something like 280 degrees on the ramps. the 4.2
mpi kit is based on the '91-5 ecm and intake, and on an otherwise-stock
258 [~259 deg cam] gives 160+ hp and even more of the old six low speed
torque.
