farna@xxxxxxx, you said...
I feel for you Doc! I seem to recall Gwynn Smith sent her material off
to have seat covers made and had someone else install them. Maybe
that's an option? I know Gwynn was well pleased with the results, and
I'm sure she'll be happy to supply contact info. Shipping the material
across the country and back isn't what you had in mind I know, but
looks like you're going to have to go out of town anyway.
More or less correct: I had the covers sewn by Fryer's Auto Upholstery
(www.autoupholsterykits.com) in Vancouver, Washington. They took my
old, beat to hell covers and recreated what had been there. They also
worked directly with SMS to get all the correct fabrics, and even
recreate the heat-pressed lines on the front seat backs.
As far as the install, that was me and my partner, using the ol' hog
ring pliers. All the substrate (the foam padding, the burlap, etc) I
got locally. This is actually not that bad, though time consuming.
Cheers,
Gwen Smith
(Who has been busy setting up a new computer, and is therefore glad
this was flagged with more-or-less my name)
