I sent the guy a message. The point is, if someone wants to do something like this to his car, he may as well be given a bit of knowledge to do it right! I advised Brian Anderson (see this month's Hot Rod "Pump Gas Drags") and he ended up getting old Ramblers a good bit of recognition. I'll be the first to say it would have been so much better had there been a turbo AMC 327 or even 360/401 under the hood, but to have even a SBC powered Rambler in the top 10 makes more people think that Grandpa's old Rambler just might be worth saving. Young hot rodders aren't made of money, so they will tool around with the original powerplant for a little while anyway. I'm talking with a guy over on the AMC Forums who's fixing up an old 327 now -- a couple of us have him talked into adapting a Edelbrock Performer and locating a cam to have reground before ditching the thing (which reminds me -- anyone have a dead 287/327 they can pull the cam from?). Besides, the less the guy hacks on the J! avelin, the easier it will be to pull the BBC and reinstall an AMC engine later.
