I need to look for a copy of "Motor Trend Classic" myself! There are Ramblers galore in the latest Hot Rod, which I just got in the mail a couple days ago. Unfortunately, I think both are Chevy powered. The good thing is both are in "top 10 fastest cars" categories. If they'd only been AMC powered (one MIGHT be, I haven't read the article yet), would have been so much better!! The first is at the drag strip -- Brian Anderson from Warner Robins, GA, and his 1964 Rambler Classic. Unfortunately it has a SBC with turbo instead of the 287 the car came with. Interestingly, I helped Brian fix a gas tank on that very car, and gave him advice on installing another engine properly. I did suggest he keep the 287 and turbo it, might be why he decided to turbo the SBC. I seem to recall he had a Ford 351 he was wanting to put in at the time, left over from another project and ready to go. The 287 needed a complete rebuild, and lack of performance parts was the no-sale for that. We did talk about getting a 360, but that would be as much work as dr! opping in the engine he already had, and the only available 360s would need rebuilding. I forget where the leaf springs came from, but that's what's under the rear axle -- which I also forget the source of. Just interesting to see a car I had some minor influence on in the top 10 fastest cars. Oh, I forget what times he was running. The other car is a 66-69 American WAGON run by another Georgian -- from Gainesville. Don't recall the name (should have brought the mag to work!), but he was in the top speed top 10. I think they were doing a recorded mile, after a mile to pick up speed? I'll have to read the article, just glanced over it last night. I didn't catch the powerplant in this car, but it's likely SBC also. Hope I'm wrong though -- a 360-401 is certainly as capable! ============================================================= Posted by wixList Archiver -- http://www.amxfiles.com/wixlist
