Need some advice. My brake pads are wearing on one side of the caliper

busy to look through my older magazine articles so I am asking our AMC
community to help. Let me know! Thanks in advance!

On which car?

The single piston pulls the caliper inboard, when released, it
should wiggle and float back outward. I assume it's the outboard
show that's wearing?

On the 71, KH brakes, disassemble and wirebrush everything,
shouldn't need lube, but nickel anti-sieze is OK in tiny amounts.
There are rubber/plastic grommets in the slide pin holes if I
recall (or am I thinking of 82-up?) that might wear and bind. It's
a pretty simple system.

On the later Bendix brakes, they might have been assembled wrong.
The caliper sits on the mount on the bottom, and the top is held
in by the funny wedge. It's possible to jam the flat, curved
spring in the wrong side and it binds the caliper -- I did this.
The wedges were damaged so I bought new ones from NAPA. (Part
number UP? 82432 I think it's UP-something, certain of the 82432,
if you get the part # let me know).

You can use a small amount of ordinary grease on the
caliper::mount areas. The caliper should slide freely, either by
hand or a slight bonk with a rubber hammer. The slight amount of

rotor runout will keep them centered in use.
