The warm and fuzzie memories are still fresh in my mind as I am useing the original black back seat out of my bought new 74 Hornet that I still have. The seat always latched fine from the factory. The only gripe I had was a squeek coming from the part of the seat that contacts the latch. I used some electrical tape and made 2 turns and it cured the problem when the car was new. I had the tent and me and the wife used to go camping in the car. The only other problem I had was where the mounting plate for the latch that was welded to the wheel well the weld broke and I had to re-weld it when it was 3 years old. The seat worked fine for 24 years till I removed it and put a 12 point cage in the car and the back seat no longer fit. It's funny that the latch that gave me the problem on ths car was the same one that the mount broke on my yellow car. Anyhow the seat latches properly and is tight. When I installed the seat I cut off the electrical tape I put on 31+ years ago. The oth! er thing that amazed me about my yellow Hornet when I bought it new was how tight fitting the doors were. Now on my orange one after spending a lot of time, money and parts the doors fit like new. I plan on resting my tired old crippled body for the whole holliday weekend and hide in the A/C and the only car related thing I will do is to watch auto racing on TV and clean the base cushion of the rear seat. Next week the carpet comes out, the floor gets painted and the Dynamat and the last 2 pieces of carpet go in. I know with my luck they won't fit properly. But you are right Tom this will be a great car. The only mechanical's that need to be done yet are the tranny as it leaks and has a broken case near the starter. I have a re-buildable core a friend gave me and I need to find out why the fuel gauge dosen't work. The steering column needs to be painted and the new dash installed along with the stock gauge pod under the package tray with Auto Meter gauges. Then I can do som! e cosmetic work on the body like add the AMX flairs and rear louver... . Probably by the time I am done it will be time to park it for the winter and only use it when the roads are snow and salt free.
