Doc, I wasn't trying to start a war or anything, just trying to be honest. And if I am being honest with my opinions then there should be no cry to Frank. And as far as ethic's and legality on re-tagging a car going to start again, you may not realize but there are new people signing up on the list or reading it on the amxfiles that have never heard this discussion before. I have been into AMC's since 1964 and the president/editor of an international car club since 1982 and as such I have seen and heard of all kinds of games being played. Such as fake/clones of SC/Ramblers, SS/AMX's, and even members buying a car and then finding out the VIN on the dash was false and the car was stolen and they lost the money they had put into the car. And yes, money can be put into a Gremlin, especially if you were restoring it to a #1 condition or to race it. Do you know how much can be spent on making a car a 9 or 8-second race car? Back in the 70's, when I lived in California I was scammed and it hurt. I bought an AMC from what I thought was a close friend but then found it was stolen and the title (signed) forged. The police took the car from me. When I tried to get my money back from my so called friend he kept putting me off. We had some bad words and get-to-gethers when he decided to get rid of me. What do I mean by that. Well, what he did was meet, what he though was a hit man at a restaurant in Santa Clara, CA, to have me done in. But the tables were turned on him as the hit man was an undercover sheriffs's deputy and he was arrested. The whole talk with the supposed hit man was tape recorded. So you can see why I am leery of those that fake the VIN, registration, etc. on a car.
