Wasn't there an old service bulleting on the BW trannies (M35 at least) which required that a shuttle valve be drilled out slightly to prevent a slight pressure on the reverse band, which increased fuel consumption and wear on the transmission? I seem to recall that was a old trick and my transmission shop at the time (Westminster Transmission) knew of the fix.
