In the fuse panel there is a main 30A circuit breaker in many cars. Looks like a small square metal "can", almost like a relay, about the same size as a turn signal flasher. Sounds like the breaker is tripping. Could be a bad breaker, or an intermittent short, or more likely a bad alternator feeding to much power. Check all grounds and power cables (batttery cables) and have the alternator checked. The circuit breaker should pull right out. You can try replacing it, but check everything first. There is usually something wrong to cause the breaker to go bad, though they do just get weak occasionally -- it's 20+ years old.
