There actually IS a left and a right. It is determined by the seat positioning lever but not something that would necessarily keep you from switching them.

While installing the seats in my 73 Javelin I
discovered that there is no right and left seat in
these cars.  I knew that the earlier cars had the
reclining handles positioned outboard.

My Javelin, of course has the folding latch in the
center of the seat and the seat position actuator is
located in the same position on each seat.  I hadn't
realized that when I took them out to install new
carpet.

I switched the passenger seat, which was little used,
to the driver side and will take the driver seat to a
local upholstery shop to have a torn seam mended.
