Re: am/8 track wiring help.........

Colin,

The standard AM radio for '69 has a brown wire for power, an orange wire for dial light and, on a separate harness, green and black for the speaker. There is no radio ground wire as you suspected.

On your AM/8 Track, I would guess that the brown wire is power, and orange dial light.
The black is probably speaker ground with the black\white and black\green being the left and right speaker +ve wires. It's easy enough to figure out which is left and which is right once the radio is powered using the balance control. The solid black would connect to both speaker negatives.

Hey Guys,
just looking to see if anyone can point me in the right direction on
this. the unit is a 68-70 (other years?) am/8 track, but the wiring is a
little different than the am radio it's replacing and of course it's
been hacked. i'm thinking brown is the power source, orange is for the
light. the problem is the next 3, there is a solid black, a black/white
and a black/green. my feeling is they are all speaker wires, but i don't
know. you would think the solid black might be a ground, but if memory
serves the am radios don't have a ground wire as the case is grounded
(and it appears to be on this one as well). all help greatly appreciated!
