I don't think the GEN-2/3 V-8s ever went on a diet like the mid 1980 258. They were cast with state of the art techniques from the start. It took until 1980 for the six to catch up! The 600/540 pounds are for the GEN-1 vs. GEN-2/3 engines as far as I know. I've never seen an AMC V-8 with an aluminum intake from the factory. All 360s had cast iron. You'd think that if they really wanted to lose weight that would go, not just thinner castings.
