Good evening good people,
Last night I got the clutch pedal and all the linkages in place. I had my
son push the pedal down while I was under the car and watched. The clutch
released and I could easily spin the transmission by hand. I didn't hear any
unusual noises either. I was a little concerned that the Mustang Disc I put
in would rub against something or the Borg and Beck three finger pressure
plate would not have enough release travel to work with the disc but so far
I think things inside the bell housing are OK, I'll know more when I can
fire the engine again and play around with it. Today I had another good day
in the shop. Finished up blasting the right front suspension components, and
got a coat of epoxy primer on them. That is some bad nasty stuff, it should
stick like flies on stink.
I have a quart can of PPG Acrylic Enamel, that's full and about 20 yrs old.
I think I'm going to use it. It's gloss black so should look very good under
there. I was at a loss to figure out what to use to paint the coil springs.
So I went to the local Ace Hardware Store and found a spray can of Performix
Plasti Dip. It's similar to what is available in those cans where one dips
the handles of tools into it and it forms a flexible rubbery coating. This
stuff though unlike the dip can comes in an aerosol spray can. I spent about
45 minutes blasting that dang coil, I sure hope this stuff works. I don't
think it ever truly gets hard it seems to want to stay a little softer than
regular paint. Tomorrow I'm planning to spray the suspension parts and then
I can begin assembling things next week. After the right side suspension is
all back together, (using the left side as a pattern) I'll start on the left
side. I already have the coil spring out on the left side, I just got too
sick of blasting parts to blast it too. Coils are a major pain to clean up.
Frank thanks for the advice about driveshafts,
I'm still hoping some one can come up with a great idea on how to make a
flexible transmission mount. The original transmission crossmember is about
2 inches below the T5 mount boss and about 4 inches behind it. I bought a
Mustang transmission mount hoping it would work but so far it doesn't look
good, unless I fabricate a bracket to weld to the AMC crossmember then I
could bolt the Mustang mount right up, but that may make the cross member
hang too low also.
Take care all,
Armand
