I doubt you'll realize there isn't a 401 under the hood anyway! Well, on take off I'm sure you will, but overall you'll have a better handling car. George Doughtie's 401 Spirit handles well, but he really beefed up the suspension! The 4.0L won't have as much mass over the front wheels and should be better handling with fewer mods. Now go ahead and do some of those mods... especially if you build a 4.6L stroker... I liken it to the difference between a 289 and 427 powered Ford Cobra (the real one -- two seater). From all reports I've read, they were about equal on a road race course. The 289 model would go into the curves faster, the 427 model had to brake a lot going into the curves but came out of them a bit harder. On the straights there was no contest -- the 427 would rush up to a curve then have to brake hard to go around (or plow off the side!). That's when the 289 model would catch back up! If the 427 got in front the 289 couldn't get around unless the 427 went into a curve to fast and there was room for the 289 to pass in the turn. But the 427 couldn't keep the 289 off it's butt either (though it was catch-up on the straights). If there was no long straight (over 1/4 mile) the opposite was true -- 427 was always catching up on the straight but couldn't get around the 289 becaus of the curves. Bottom line: track with lots of long straights (think track laid out for Corvettes) t! he 427 had the advantage. Real twisty track and the 289 did. \On April 24, 2005 John Rosa wrote: > Ebay auction- > > Starting at $0.49, No Reserve. > > Yea, well, I'm sure it'll go up from there!....right?!? > > Gotta move some stuff to get $$ together to make real > progress on the Spirit 4.0L project.
