Re: FW: Jeep 4.0 in an American?

The BA trans is not as bad as people say it is. the Comanche I sold had 216,000 miles on it.
with the original BA 10 still in it. I bought it off the original owner and he swore he had never even replaced the clutch disc!!! The reason the BA 10 has a bad name is the people you hear form on it are people that performance drive their vehicles. A BA 10 won't take any abuse. Drive with care and don't power shift it, It will last for ever. My buddy put a 350 small block in a Monza in front of the original weak kneed 4 speed trans and drove it for 4 years, no problem at all. He sold it to a kid. the tranny went out in a week. First thing the kid said was. You sold me a piece of junk. I was there when the car was sold and the kid was warned not to abuse the tranny. Go figure. My cousins also put a 302 in front of the four cylinder 4 speed in a 70's Mustang II and drove it back and forth to the steel mills an twop hour drive daily for two years. It was fine, He sold it to his brother, Trans was gone in a day! Same deal.
If you are driving the vehicle as a driver not a race car. You can get a way with a lot of stuff that others ay, "don't use that part"
YMMV!
