Re: Need Advice... Real Bad-like

At first I just thought I was confused but now I am positive.

After examining the back of the 360 crank I have determined that, yes, it is indeed incompatible with my transmission torque converter in the 904.

My whole intention is to get a motor in the Javelin with the least amount of hassles while I am building another for it. My Rebel Machine has a recently rebuilt motor (the 360) but needs a restoration. The restoration on the Javelin is done except for the motor. This was the logic for putting the motor from the Machine into the Javelin.

Dave, the motor is out but when you recommend to have it balanced - is this something a machine shop can do without opening the motor?

<snip>You can buy a 72 360 flexplate and bolt it to the 70 crank.
NO NO NO!
This is totally wrong! You cannot bolt a late model (727/904)
flexplate to an early (BorgWarner) crank! You're getting bad
advice here! The flange mountings are different, and they
won't align without adapters.

There's also been some evidence posted here that the 70-early 71
360's are differently balanced than the later model 360's
(flywheel counter weights are in a different position).

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, if you've
got the motor out anyway, get it balanced by a good
shop. It's money well spent.

Good luck!

I have pulled the 360 out of my 1970 Rebel (standard trans) and plan to put
it in my Javelin (with a 904).

Obviously the flywheel will bolt right up but am I going to have a engine
balance problem?

Is the only solution to break the engine down entirely and have it all
balanced?

Thanks,

Todd W
