Yesterday was a beautiful day indeed! I mowed the lawn, then put in 8 hours on the American! On Saturday I finally found a lower radiator hose that fit perfect on both ends! YEAH! I will post the part number when I get a chance. So I finished up the cooling system and filled it. Then I dropped the starter to look at an oil drip I had noticed and for some reason oil was dripping from two pan bolts. Not from the gasket itself though! I used the jeep one piece gasket with a 73 pan. I figure it has something to do with the flange being slightly different. What I did was pull those two bolts and clean everything good. Then I used some silicone on the bolts and the integral washer. It looks fine now. Then I installed my stainless braided front brake hoses. This took some time and I still have about the same brake pedal as before. I think it is slightly improved, but still has a mushy feel to it. I think it may be my own fault since I mounted a 79 Mustang manual disc brake master and redrilled my brake arm. I think I still need a longer rod. I may just try going back to the proper American master at some point, but for now it is fine. I have an old Coates tire machine which I used to mounted up my tires on my generic early chevy style rally wheels, with unmarked police caps. The American is now wearing 205/60R15?s front on 15X7 rally wheels. 255/60R15?s rear on 15X8 rally wheels. I used a 4 ½? backspacing on the front with the 3/8? thick lowering plates the drop the front 1 ¾?s they fit perfect. The rears have 4 ¼? backspacing which is a slight change from the earlier wheels. I had used 4 ½? spacing the first time and occasionally the tire would rub the inner fender. Keep in mind, I have front fender lips welded in the rear quarters, You won?t get 255?s under many Americans! Now they fit perfect. For the first time in a long time I dropped it back on the floor and it is off the jack stands! I charged up the battery and started it up and backed it out of the garage under it?s own power. Awesome! I left it run for a while and noticed a slight ticking noise and my heart fell! I never heard that before, Oh, Crap now what I thought! Then I realized it was only the fuel injectors ticking! No wonder I never noticed it before, It never had injectors before !!! Car looks awesome sitting on the fat silver rally wheels!!! It sits perfect for my taste! I still need to roll the front fender lips a little, but they should clear fine. I?ve still got the wipers to sort out before I put the hood on. Once I do I will be taking a fresh set of pictures to send in to Hagerty and get the insurance back on it! After I do that and while I?m waiting for the paperwork to come back, I will wire up the turn signal switch and it will be road ready again!!! Yes! A beautiful day indeed!
