Start running some of the better fuel injection/carb cleaner. There are some in the $7-$10 range that are prtty good -- I've had lots of luck using Castrol Syntech FI cleaner (they make two "levels" -- one for under $5 that is for maintaining, the other nearer $10 for a good cleaning, which is what you want the first time). I run the higher priced stuff in about half a tank of gas -- says "treats up to 21 gallons", but usually cleans a dirty injector or two in half a tank (10-12 gallons). Should help the carb out considerably. If the carb hasn't been rebuilt in the last five years you might want to put a new kit in it anyway. The new gas blends don't always get along with the old (10+ years?) synthetic rubbers in carbs. New kits will use newer rubber formulations that should be fine. If you have an acceleration problem I'd definitely rebuild, as it's usually the accelerator pump rubbers that are the problem. But you only mentioned idle, so the in tank cleaner should fix you ! up. One more thing, you might want to blow compressed air into the fuel tank. Take the line off at the pump then regulate pressure down to around 20 psi, then blow back through. If the sock on the end of the pickup is partially clogged that should blow it out. If it's bad clogged it will blow it OFF, but if the tank is relatively clean and you have a good filter in the line that shouldn't be a problem. Dribbling a little water down the carb to cut carbon won't hurt either. Might help it out a lot. On April 17, 2005 Jay Ciampi wrote: > I have new plugs, wires and points and vacuum advance unit.
